Our shelter took in hundreds of animals for emergency boarding and created temporary housing using pop up crates in areas of the shelter that are not typically used for animal housing. Within 7 to 14 days, many of these animals were displaying signs of upper respiratory signs and we were working to manage disease outbreaks amongst a highly stressed population in very stressful conditions. We prioritized installing the ionizers within these areas (despite the numerous other demands during this disaster response!) and very quickly noted a decrease in the number of new sick cases in these areas.
